Project 4

Lea 1

This beautiful stone inglenook fireplace is a far cry from the uninspiring brick structure in a plastered  chimney breast that we began with in a local farmhouse. Having removed the bricks and plaster we uncovered the stone quoins of an inglenook firplace, but dismantled no fewer than 5 further fireplaces on the way, only being sure that we had finally reached the original when we found a salt cellar on the back wall (top left of the photograph).

Lea 2

We rebuilt the back wall with reclaimed stone and then created a new stone hearth.
The final touches were to have the stone, brick and oak sandblasted and a wood-burning stove installed.
